Anableps anableps is an absolutely bizarre livebearer from South America. With their odd split eyes they can look both above and below the water at the same time! This is highly beneficial to these strict surface-dwellers as they can see both prey and predators coming from both sides of the waterline. These fish are the largest livebearers, reaching up to 8″ long in females. They actually possess 4 pupils and 4 corneas, meaning their two eyeballs are very nearly split into 4 separate eyes! This is a brackish species that appreciates aquarium salt in the water; they do not do too well long-term in tap water.

These are unsexable babies around 2.5-3″ long.
