Emerald Dwarf Rasbora

The Emerald Dwarf Rasbora, also known as Microrasbora erythromicron, is a stunningly vibrant species prized for its striking emerald green hue and fiery orange accents. Males boast more intense colors, particularly during breeding displays, adding an exquisite touch to any aquarium. Originating from the clear, slow-moving streams and forested areas of Myanmar, this small, peaceful fish thrives in densely planted tanks with subdued lighting and ample hiding spots.

Ideal water temperatures for Emerald Dwarf Rasboras range between 22C to 26C (71.6F to 78.8F), mimicking their natural tropical habitat. Feeding these fish a varied diet consisting of high-quality flake food, micro pellets, and occasional treats like freeze-dried bloodworms or brine shrimp ensures optimal health and coloration. They prefer slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.0 and moderate water hardness.

An ideal aquarium size for a small school of Emerald Dwarf Rasboras would be at least 30 liters (approximately 8 gallons), providing ample swimming space and territory for each fish. With proper care, these captivating fish can live for up to 4 to 5 years. In a community tank setup, they are peaceful and get along well with other small, non-aggressive species like small tetras, rasboras, and peaceful bottom dwellers like dwarf shrimp or small catfish.

Breeding Emerald Dwarf Rasboras is feasible in a well-planted aquarium with soft, slightly acidic water. Spawning can be initiated by raising the temperature slightly and providing plenty of fine-leaved plants for the females to scatter their eggs among. After spawning, remove the adults to prevent them from eating the eggs, and raise the fry on infusoria or commercial liquid fry food until they are large enough to accept powdered or crushed flakes.
